Thames Water Car Tracking Case Study image

THAMES WATER
Thames Water is largest water and wastewater services supplier in the UK. The company provides sewage services to 13 million people and drinking water to eight million people. Its supply area covers 5,000 square miles across London and the Thames Valley: from Kent in the east to Gloucestershire in the west.

THE CHALLENGE
Thames Water operates in excess of 1,200 vans, used by the company’s service engineers. Thames Water identified a need to implement an advanced efficiency programme across its entire fleet to achieve increased productivity and reduced operating cost, but had no way of effectively monitoring its mobile workforce and vehicles.

THE SOLUTION
Thames Water installed the C-track vehicle tracking and fleet management system across its van fleet as part of its wider efficiency drive. The system has enabled the company to increase productivity, reduce overheads and achieve tangible operating efficiencies

To date, Thames Water has cut fuel usage by almost ten per cent, equating to 161,000 litres of diesel fuel. In addition, considerable environmental benefits have also been realised as a result of these fleet savings, with reductions in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of approximately 429 tonnes. Thames Water is committed to

achieving best-practise in environmental management and this cut in CO2 forms part of its initiative to minimise emissions of greenhouse gases.

Thames Water is now looking to further utilise vehicle tracking to support the scheduling of planned and reactive work. This will enable the company to better serve its customers, whilst enhancing the productivity of its fleet operation. The C-track system offers the opportunity to reduce journey times and react quicker to customer needs, by sending the nearest driver to any given location.

Thames Water is also committed to protecting its mobile workforce and improving working conditions. As such, the companies use of C-track forms in integral part of it health & safety procedures.
